Children of Foreclosure
Author: Alex Neir
Losing your home is a stressful and disheartening experience, especially if you feel you were duped into a sub prime mortgage by a shady lender. For children however, a foreclosure will take an emotional toll that can have a lasting impact on all areas of their lives.
According to the report, “The Impact of the Mortgage Crisis on Children,” more than two million children around the country are being directly affected by a foreclosure, while thousands more are affected indirectly via foreclosures of rental properties.
With so many of our young people experiencing foreclosures firsthand, it’s important to consider what impact this sudden upheaval and financial trouble has on our nation’s children.
The main consequence of a foreclosure is the loss of the family home. Not only is the loss of the home itself difficult for children, but they’re also forced to leave the familiar sanctuary of the neighborhood, say goodbye to friends, and in some cases, leave behind their schools. This loss of peer relationships and important teachers can leave a child heartbroken, anxious, and scared.
Often a foreclosure proceeding and its immediate aftermath happens so quickly that there’s no time to really prepare the child for the swift changes about to occur. The entire family is swept up in the current of monetary concerns, grief, and overwhelming stress.
With parents preoccupied with finding an affordable place to live, the children’s emotional state is often brushed aside. Dealing with the logistics of a foreclosure is more than enough for parents to worry about, and the children usually know it.
When parents are dealing with stress and depression, kids can feel it. They see you sad, irritable, and under pressure. Children aren’t equipped to understand what’s causing your stress, so they internalize it as being their fault. Even if they understand that you’re losing the house because you’ve run out of money, they will likely still see the situation as being their fault. They feel like a burden on you; that if you didn’t have to feed and clothe them, you’d be able to keep the house.
In you think your children are dealing with feelings like these, it’s imperative that you explain that the foreclosure is not their fault, and that everything will work out all right. Since a child’s stability is being threatened, you need to reiterate the fact that no matter where you end up, you’ll always be there for them. Try to maintain routine as much as possible, and if you can, keep them enrolled in their current school so that they have something familiar to turn to every day. For a child, their teachers, parents, and friends will be much needed touchstones in this difficult time.
Even if you have children who are old enough to know that they’re not responsible for the situation, a feeling of powerlessness and frustration can develop. They see that you’re upset and struggling, but as they’re only children, they can do little to remedy the situation. Teenagers can take care of their younger siblings, or get a part-time job to help out the household, but younger kids’ hands are tied.
This kind of self-imposed emotional responsibility is a heavy burden for a child. Kids need to know that they’re living in a safe, stable environment. A consistent environment, and strong connections are vital to proper development, and a foreclosure can take those away.
Many children of foreclosure are forced to live in temporary quarters like motel rooms, emergency shelters, or even vehicles. Homelessness in children has risen by leaps and bounds this past year, as foreclosures and high rents have pushed families out of their homes. Regardless of the cause of the foreclosure crisis, it’s clear that the ones losing out are the children. If you’re a parent facing foreclosure, remember to pay attention to your child’s emotions. You can ease the transition simply by being there for them, and by maintaining as much normality as possible.
Looking back at this past few months, we are now seen the bigger picture on how bad this whole Real Estate Fiasco has turned out to be. The size of the problem is beyond our imagination. Top Economists have difficulties putting together the big picture because of the proportions and complexities that are involved. One picture is very clear, we now understand why the Big Banks have tried so hard to hide and manipulate the issue. Perhaps, we as a Nation will never really know the entire truth.
Yes, today we have many more questions than answers. There are more issues that have come out to light than ever known. More Crimes committed than ever imagined. And more Players involved than ever anticipated.
I have known from personal experience, that the Banks have had their hands dirty. Not too long ago, I thought that it would take a miracle for the corruption to be exposed. Well, to my doubt and disbelief, the TRUTH IS OUT.
YEARS OF FIGHTING AND PAIN
I have fought this Banksters for years. We know that the Banks have unlimited resources at their disposal to they have the ability to manipulate and distort the Truth. Forged Documents, Corrupted Law Firms, Sold out Politicians and Judges are only but a few to mention.
The Mortgage Crisis is an ongoing problem. The severe damage caused to the Economy, has untold consequences. It was a years of making and now there are no immediate cures for this gigantic problem. Defaults and Foreclosures levels increased dramatically. Home prices have fallen at levels not anticipated. Borrowers are having a hard time obtaining loans. Buyers are scared to buy. Past Foreclosures may be legally in question. Also, lets not forget that Mortgages have Foreign Investors and money attached to them. Millions have lost jobs. Cities are at the brink of bankruptcies, investors ripped off by the fraud, Families emotionally and financially broken. Children are traumatized. Marriages destroyed. Hospitals have recorded increased of People becoming sick due to the high levels of stress. It’s a complete mess. People all around are nervous and very upset. The total losses may be in the Trillions. Around 62 Million Real Estate transactions may be in question. Stability in the Financial sector is a concern. The Government is trying to do as best as they can, so they tell us. According to Financial experts, the losses in Stock may be in the Trillions. And again we are told by Government Officials, economists, Bankers and Business Executives that a variety of solutions are under consideration . All we can do for now is wait. Some changes may be short-term and some long, some immediate and some may take time. But regardless at when the changes come, the damage is done and it can not be ignored.
THE NATION IS WAITING
America is a Nation waiting to see Justice. The Truth is out and we can no longer hide the Sun with our thumb. Every State, City and Community is watching how and what changes will take place. Citizens, Working Americans and Homeowners w ill take note on who are the ones who will benefit from the coming changes. All Americans stand United, Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, Independents and the Rest, will no longer accept the status quo. We demand changes. We expect Changes. The People deserve Justice from the Crimes committed against U.S.! YES, THE NATION IS WAITING.
In the last 10 Years or so, Millions of American Families have become victims to Financial Criminals. The Pain, suffering that this Crisis has brought to countless Victims have taken a told around the Country. The 50 States of the Union have had to share the Financial burden that this Crisis brought to Cities and entire Communities. The Nation is paying for the Criminal Acts of the Greedy.
As a Victim of Real Estate Fraud, I fully understand the agony that Families Face each single day. Fear of the unknown is bad enough. The Red Tape in trying to get help is just another part of the added suffering that Homeowners face. Scammers and cold-blooded opportunistic people are on the rise. They are preying on the weakness of those that are down. That is just another added pain that comes with the Homeowners Crisis.
People who are not facing this Crisis have absolutely no clue what Homeowners are facing. The Banks have tried to painted and distort the truth. The ongoing Propaganda by the Financial Criminals blame the Homeowners for what they have done. Because of their unlimited Financial Resources, the Criminals surround themselves with TOP DOLLAR ATTORNEYS, who will stop at nothing to manipulate the Judicial System.
FIGHTING BACK
Homeowners face the reality that no-one will fight for us. We have come to terms with ourselves and understand that, if anything is going to be done, we the People must get it done. We are no longer staying quiet about our Crisis. We are speaking out. We are writing, Tweeting, Blogging and no one will shut us up until something gets done about the Crimes that have been committed against us.
PUBLIC AWARENESS
Today there is a never seen before “Public Awareness” of what the Banksters have done with the Real Estate Market. The Court System is starting to take knowledge that the Corruption and manipulation from the Banks is real. Cases are being overturned and Homeowners are getting back what was stolen from them. However, the Battle has just begun. There is much more to be done. And we will not rest until the People get Justice.
PROTECTIONS
We are so much in need of Consumer Protections against Criminals who manipulate the Markets. We no longer will tolerate what the “Big Corporations” are doing against the “Working Families”. We demand our Representatives to take a stand against “Special Interest” and to be a voice for the People. Those not willing to Support our Communities will be “Voted Out” and will be exposed.
